A Five-Minute Gua Sha Ritual for a Softer Morning
Share
Some mornings begin before we feel ready. A few minutes with a Gua Sha tool can become a small pause between waking and doing—not another task to complete, but a way to arrive in the day.
This ritual is intentionally simple. You need a clean face, a few drops of facial oil, and a tool that feels comfortable in your hand.
1. Create a little glide
Apply two to three drops of facial oil over clean, dry skin. Warm the oil between your fingertips, then press it gently across the cheeks, forehead, and jaw. The tool should move smoothly; if it catches, add another drop of oil and use less pressure.
2. Start at the centre
Rest the broad side of the Gua Sha against the centre of your chin. Sweep outward toward the ear with slow, light strokes. Repeat three times, then move to the other side. Continue from the corner of the mouth across the cheek, and from the side of the nose toward the temple.
3. Finish with the brow and neck
Use the smaller curve beneath the brow, moving from the inner brow outward. For the neck, keep the pressure especially light and sweep downward toward the collarbone. Let the final few strokes be slower than the first.
The goal is not to press harder or move faster. A good morning ritual leaves you feeling present, not hurried. Wipe the tool clean after use and store it somewhere you will see it tomorrow.
